Is This Henry VIII’s Ghost?

Henry had all the power while he was alive, but in death his many ex-wives trump him in the haunting department. The ghosts of those ladies get around now more than the king did in his day, it seems.

But last year, a 54-year-old grandmother snapped a pic that makes you wonder. She’d been staying in a 14th-century manor house and taking a nighttime tour of the place with a few other people. The picture she got makes you think they had more company than they’d realized.

Get nosy with Henry VIII

You know you want to peek at some of Henry VIII’s personal items, on display at the British Library until September 6th. What are the goods? A love letter he wrote to Anne Boleyn seems to be the most juicy, as it has been hidden away in the Vatican since the 16th century. The exhibition also features the king’s personal prayer book and a list of all the unlucky souls he had executed during his reign, just to name a few things.

The British Library is located in London, so if you will be in the area it’s a can’t-miss. On the other hand, if it’s a can’t-make-it for you, check out the British library’s Web page on the event for news links and a video by that very serious but incredibly knowledgeable British historian, David Starkey.

500th Anniversary of Henry VIII’s Accession!

One of my favorite historic homes, Hampton Court Palace, is celebrating the 500th anniversary of the accession of the Much-Married Monarch this year!

If you are headed to London in the near future, be sure to check it out in person. If you, like I, are sadly unable to attend the festivities, explore here for info on the palace itself as well as the exhibition, a virtual jousting game, and more.
